Dr. Kaniff performs tumescent LipoSculpture (also known as liposuction) which has revolutionized the procedure.   Tumescent LipoSculpture has virtually eliminated the possibility of a blood transfusion, and allows surgeons to remove more fat resulting in better body contouring.

Tumescent LipoSculpture is performed by placing the tumescent fluid into the fatty compartment between the skin and muscle.   The fluid contains normal body saline, lidocaine and epinephrine.  Lidocaine is a local anesthetic used in a very dilute form to "numb" the fatty compartment.  Epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, constricts the blood vessels in the fat and skin. As a result, blood loss in the average patient is measured in teaspoons!

After the fluid is in place, excess fat is then vacuumed out of the body through a small, hollow, blunt-ended tube called a "cannula."  Multiple areas are often treated in order to achieve the best result.  Think of LipoSculpture as a three dimensional sculpture -- your body.
